The Bursa Peach has a long, storied history dating back to the Ottoman era. Famous for its flavor and quality, this fruit was frequently sent from Bursa to the Ottoman palace, as records from 1848 and 1881 indicate. The Bursa Peach was one of the carefully selected fruits for the palace kitchen, known as the matbah-ı amire, which received the best produce from various regions. Alongside peaches, Bursa also supplied melons, watermelons, chestnuts, and more to the capital.
In the 1940s, the Bursa Peach gained additional fame with high demand for canned peaches both domestically and internationally. The peach, believed to have originated in China, symbolizes long life and immortality—a fitting association for a fruit that has held cultural and culinary significance for centuries in Bursa.
